Our Eternal Security and Place in God's Family

From the moment when we make that life changing decision to chose Him (salvation), we undergo a profound transformation. We move from being separated from God by sin (those things we have done that are wrong) to becoming part of His eternal family.

This is our turning point; through faith in Jesus Christ. The journey beyond this decision is marked by several key truths that guide and comfort us as we take these next steps.

Becoming Part of God’s Family

Salvation is a free gift of grace, given through faith in Jesus. It’s not something we can earn through our own efforts. As the Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." When we accept this free gift, we become children of God, embraced into His loving family.

Safe Forever in God’s Family

One of the most reassuring aspects of being a Christian is the certainty that once we are saved, we are always saved. This eternal security means that nothing can separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:38-39 powerfully states, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The Holy Spirit: Our Seal of Salvation

When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. He then acts as a seal and guarantee of our salvation. Ephesians 1:13-14 explains, "When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory." This means our relationship with God is secure and unbreakable.

The Enduring Love of God

God’s love is enduring and unfailing. It’s a love that reaches out to us even when we stumble and fail. And we all have these moments in our lives! Romans 5:8 reminds us, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." His love is not based on our performance but on His unchanging nature. It is not because of how much we love Him. But because of just how much He loves us!

The Unbreakable Grip of God

Jesus assures us of the security we have in Him. In John 10:28-30, He says, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one." This promise provides immense comfort and assurance. We are secure in His hand. We cannot be lost, stolen or taken away from this position. I'm so thankful that our position in God's family is not reliant on how I continue to live my life day to day. My salvation and security is tied to the work that He completed on the cross.

The Amazing Grace of God

Grace is the foundation of our salvation. It’s unearned and freely given by God. Ephesians 2:8-9 underscores this truth, reminding us that our salvation is entirely by God’s grace. Understanding this grace helps us to appreciate the depth of God’s love and mercy.

The Irreversible Transformation by God

When we are saved, God changes many things within us. We are justified, redeemed, and adopted into His family. These changes are permanent and complete, reflecting the thorough nature of God’s work in our lives.

Identifying with God’s Family

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are important practices that help us identify with God’s family. They serve as outward symbols of our inner faith and commitment to Christ.

Reflect and Rejoice

As we reflect on these truths, consider how they impact our faith and our daily life. Embrace the assurance of our salvation, knowing that God’s love for us is steadfast and eternal.

Remember, our salvation depends not on our love for God, but on His love for us! (His love for you specifically) Your salvation does not rely on your commitment to Him, but on His pledge to you, not on your hold on Him but His grasp of you.

Welcome to the family of God

Where you are loved, secure, and transformed forever.
